755,057. Steam-generator furnaces. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING, Inc. June 18, 1954, No. 17932/54. Class 51(1). [Also in Group XIII] A steam generator of the type shown in Fig. 1, having an upper drum 10 and banks of tubes 13, 15 extending downwardly and outwardly therefrom to lower drums 12, 14 so as to provide between and beneath the banks a combustion chamber 27 furnished'with gas burners 29, has a superheater 18 in the tube bank 13 and is provided with air supply nozzles 37, 38 positioned at the sides of the combustion chamber and arranged to project air streams towards the respective tube banks 13, 15, the degree of superheat being regulated by adjusting the velocity of the air streams so as to vary the proportion of the total combustion gases passing over the superheater. The velocity of the air streams is adjusted either by regulating manually or automatically the speed of motors driving the fans 40, 44 which supply the nozzles 37, 38 or by keeping these speeds constant and varying the setting of dampers 53, 54.
