[Also in Group XXXVII] An A.C. control signal is applied through a resistor 13 to a summing amplifier 4 the output of which energizes a winding 5 of a two-phase motor 6 having another winding 7 connected to a source of constant amplitude and quadrature phase. The motor operates an indicator 8 through gear-box 9, and drives a two-phase generator 10 having a winding 11 connected to a source of constant amplitude, and a winding 12 in which is induced a voltage proportional to the speed of the motor. This winding provides a feed-back voltage which is added to the control signal applied to the amplifier through resistor 13. By a suitable choice of the resistor 3, the value of the positive feed-back signal may be made such that, over a limited range, the motor speed is proportional to the time integral of the control voltage and the displacement of the indicator 8 is proportional to the second time integral of the voltage. Furthermore, the arrangement is such that, for a given value of the control voltage, the torque of the motor is substantially independent of its speed. The system may be used for computing the pitch, roll, and heading angles of an aircraft.
