A plant support comprises an elongated plate which may be laid across the tops of containers of various diameters and has at least one end adapted to bear upon and project outwardly from the rim of the container, the projecting portion being provided with means for engaging the exterior of the container, together with an upright whose position on the plate may be varied. One embodiment of the invention comprises an upright 11 carried by a support 6 which is held in place on the container 1 by means of clips 4, these being connected to the support by means of threaded draw-rods 5 and engaging an outstanding, circular rib 3 adjacent the upper end of the container. The support may be adapted to fit containers of different diameters by supplying a plurality of holes at each of its ends, in any of which the threaded rods may be engaged. In a modification, the support comprises two superimposed strips, its length being varied by moving the strips longitudinally with respect to each other and clamping them in the desired position. Another modification comprises one container housed within another, the support being applied against the rim of the outer one and having at one end two flanges which are adapted to engage opposite sides of the wall of the outer container, one of the flanges being provided with a set-screw. According to a third modification, the support is attached to the container by means of springs fixed to the ends of the support and engaging openings in the wall of the container, or if the container be placed in a saucer, the springs may engage openings in the upstanding walls of the saucer.
