Abstract
754,750. Radio signaling; tube amplifiers. TOKYO SHIBAURA ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. April 13, 1954 [April 13, 1953], No. 10805/54. Classes 40 (5) and 40 (6). In an ultra high-frequency reflex amplifier, the signals are passed more than once through a travelling-wave tube to increase the effective gain, the signals being transposed between successive passages through the tube. The invention is described as applied to a radio relay, Fig. 2, signals of frequency f from aerial A passing through a band-pass filter 1 to travelling-wave tube 2 and thence through a further filter 1a to a mixer 3 fed with local oscillations from generator 4. The output at frequency f2 is passed through filter 5a to the input of travelling-wave tube 2 and the output passes through filters f2 to transmitting aerial B. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the process is repeated at a third frequency. It is stated that the output of a travelling-wave tube is substantially constant for inputs exceeding a critical value so that the output of the amplifier remains constant with varying inputs over a wide range of values (Fig. 7, not shown).
