Abstract

5 - Amino - 2 - phenylcarbamylphenol is prepared by heating 2-carbophenoxy-5-nitrophenol with aniline to give 5-nitro-2-phenylcarbamylphenol and catalytically reducing this to the amino compound. The corresponding simple amide and lower alkyl amides are prepared similarly using ammonia or an alkylamine in place of aniline. By using octadecylamine in place of aniline 5-amino-2-octadecylcarbamylphenol is made. 5 - Acetamido - 2 - carbethoxyphenol is prepared by adding acetyl chloride in glacial acetic acid to 5-amino-2-carbethoxyphenol and sodium acetate in glacial acetic acid. 5-Acetamido-2-phenylcarbamylphenol and 5-acetamido-2-octadecylcarbamylphenol are similarly prepared from the above amino compounds. By using benzoyl chloride in place of acetyl chloride, 5-benzamido-2-carbethoxyphenol is obtained. 2-Phenylcarbamyl-5-stearamidophenol is prepared by mixing the 5-amino compound with stearoyl chloride and sodium acetate in acetic acid. 2-Carbophenoxy-5-ethoxyphenol is prepared by mixing 4-ethoxysalicylic acid with phenol and phosphorus oxychloride and heating on a steam bath. By heating the product with aniline 5 - ethoxy - 2 - phenylcarbamylphenol is obtained. If octadecylamine is used in place of aniline 5-ethoxy-2-octadecylcarbamylphenol is obtained.
