Abstract
753,939. Float-actuated valves. BRODIE CO., R. N. June 21, 1954 [May 3, 1954], No. 18183/54. Class 135. An apparatus for eliminating air from a liquid comprises an inlet 11 and outlet 14 for the liquid, an air trap chamber 17 above 11 and 14 with a vent 30 controlled by a poppet valve 31, a float 18 in the chamber at the liquid-air interface connected by a toggle linkage to the valve and means applying the air pressure in the chamber to both ends of the valve to balance it when closed including a bellows 65 contacting one end of the valve stem. The pressure on the left side of the valve is balanced by pressure via passages 72, 73, moving the bellows to contact the valve stem 54, the outside of the bellows being exposed to exhaust pressure via passage 56. As the float moves down on its guide 24 with increase in the quantity of air in the chamber, it opens the valve through the levers 32, 40 connected by link 37 and closes the liquid outlet butterfly valve 15 through connections 19-23. A filter 12 encloses the inlet.
