753,754. Automatic circuit - breakers; switches held set and freed mechanically; electromagnetic switches. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP COQ. April 8, 1954 [April 25, 1953], No. 10373/54, Class 38(5) Mechanism for operating a rectilinearlymovable contact 1 comprises a bell-crank lever 5, 7 connected to the contact rod 4, the arm 7 resting against a stop 8 in the open position of the switch and being coupled to one end of a centrally-pivoted lever 10 by an opening spring 9, The other end of the lever is connected to a fixed part 15 of the switch through a closing spring 14. The lever is also coupled to an operating handle 19 through a toggle linkage 16, 17. To close the switch, handle 19 is rotated anti-clockwise to cause a part 20 thereof to set the toggle 16, 17 and rotate lever 10 anti-clockwise thus stressing both springs 14, 9, lever. 5, 7 remaining stationary. At the end of this movement a pin 24 on lever 10 engages a latch 23 on a member 22 secured to the arm 7. The handle 19 is now returned to its' original position causing the portion 20 to trip toggle 16, 17 whereupon spring 14 rotates lever 10 clockwise to its original position, Fig. 3, member 22 rotating lever 5, 7 to close the contacts. To open the switch a button 40 is depressed to release a lever 29, 30, 31, the arm 30 of which raises member 22 to release latch 23 whereupon spring 9 rotates lever 5, 7 anti-clockwise to open the contacts. Lever 29, 30, 31 is re-set by an arm 32 coupled to the handle on movement of the latter to close the switch. Return of the lever 10 from the intermediate position under the influence of both springs 9, 14 due to erroneously pressing button 40 and tripping toggle 16, 17 by means of handle 19 is prevented by an arm 41 movable with lever 5, 7 and which carries a latch 42 engaging a pin 43 on lever 10 in said intermediate position. Handle 19 may be replaced by an electromagnet and an electromagnet may be used for opening the switch.
