Abstract

In making a magnetic composition a solid solution is formed of a mixed ferrite containing iron ferrite and a compound MM12O4 where M is Mn, Mg or Ni, and M1 is Cr or Co. The compound MM12O4 may be prepared by heating a mixture of the oxides, preferably after compression, to 900-1300 DEG C. in air, nitrogen or oxygen. According to examples, nickel chromite is made by milling equal mol proportions of NiO and Cr2O3 together, compressing and sintering. Manganese chromite is made similarly with MnO2 in place of the NiO. Manganese cobaltite is made moulding and heat treatment of the precipitate obtained by adding caustic potash to a solution of chlorides of manganese and cobalt.
