Abstract
752,224. Caissons. SMITH, R. J. S. Jan. 27, 1955 [Jan. 27, 1954], No. 2488/54. Class 68(2) A caisson forming part of a sea wall or the like is formed with a dovetailed recess 9 in its base, which becomes filled with concrete 16 to lock the caisson to locating and securing means secured to the bed on which the structure is to be built. The locating and securing means may be bobbin-like structures 23 secured in the bed or they may be piles 11 which are initially housed within the caisson as shown to the left of Fig. 3 and which are driven through apertures in the bottom as shown at the right of the figure, the apertures having originally been closed by rupturable members. A removable guide 14 is provided for the piles and the caisson is filled with concrete. -A front toe 4 on which a rock apron 17 may be built up is provided.
