Abstract

751,550 Earth-boring apparatus. PETERSON, G. A. M. June 21, 1954 [March 4, 1954], No 18163/54. - Class 85 The pilot bit of an earth - boring auger comprises a cone-shaped body formed integrally with a pair of outwardly - extending blades, each blade having concave convex cross sections in planes at right angles to the axis of the cone to provide a concave leading face and a convex trailing face relative to the direction of rotation of said bit when cutting and descending from the base end of the cone with a diminishing radial direction in a spiral fashion to terminate beyond the apex of the cone in a chisel-like cutting edge. The two cutting edges of the fish tail portion thus formed below the apex of the cone have a combined orbit comparable to the base of the cone, and each cutting edge precedes a parallel vertical plane that bisects the fish tail.
