A device for attaching a plate to the plate cylinder of a printing machine comprises a frame carrying first and second clamps and adapted to be attached to the plate cylinder, the second clamp being pivotally urged to tension the plate and comprising a member provided with teeth which project outwardly of the cylinder, a cover-plate overlying the member and having openings to accommodate the teeth and springs urging the cover-plate. against the member. Manual tensioning means are also provided comprising a bell-crank lever 34 one arm of which abuts a plate 38 on the clamp 15 and the other arm of which is attached to a screw 32 adjusted by a sleeve or nut 30. A pair of slides 50 connected by a plate 51 through which slots are provided to accommodate the pins 20 is slidably mounted between guides 49 on the ears 17, the plate 51 being spring urged by springs 52 into contact with .the plate 19. The frame 10 also carries a clamp 39 having a flange 44 co-operating with a flat surface 45 for clamping the end of a printing plate therebetween. If perforated plates are to be clamped a bar 48a having plate-engaging pins 48c may be secured to the clamp 39.
