Abstract

750,567. Radar. METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. June 3, 1954 [June 5, 1953], No. 16474/54. Class 40 (7). A pulse radar receiver includes a coherent phase pulse detector to suppress responses from fixed objects and a simple detector combined with means for increasing the sensitivity. The output of the first of these is selected at short ranges and of the second at longer ranges. The range at which the changeover occurs may be adjustable. The signals received may be fed through a preamplifier 2 to both the coherent phase pulse detector 3 and the simple pulse detector 4. Selecting means 6 select the output of detector 3 for short ranges and feed it directly to subtraction circuit 8 and also through delay device 7 which introduces a delay equal to, or a multiple of, the pulse repetition time. The output of circuit 8 which will consist only of signals corresponding to moving objects is fed to the output 10 through a selector 9 operated in synchronism with selector 6. At longer ranges selector 6 derives signals from adding device 5 fed from detector 4 and feeds them through delay device 7 and selector 9 to output 10 and also from delay device 7 back to adding device 5 to increase the sensitivity. Compensation may be made for the delays introduced and also for any inequality of gain.
