Abstract
749,652. Driving stakes. MUSK, A. W. Sept. 17, 1954 [Sept. 17, 1953], No. 25692/53. Class 68(2) A steel appliance which prevents damage to the tops of stakes when they are being driven into the ground, e.g., by a mallet, comprises a hollow metal cylinder 1 about six inches long, adapted to fit over the top of a stake 2 of approximately one e inch square, and having its upper end closed by a plug 3, a felt, or the like, pad 5 being located against the cap 3 to rest on top of the stake being driven and serve as a cushioning member. A worn pad 5 can be readily removed by passing a probing instrument through a hole 4 in the plug 3. The outer surface of the cylinder may be knurled, or ribbed, or otherwise ornamented, and other shapes may be adopted for the member 1. A tubular extension may be fitted to the cap 3 to extend downwardly within the walls of the member 1, alternatively the cap may be made integral with the side walls of the cylinder. In a modification a radially disposed handle is screwable into the upper part of the member 1.
