Abstract
Fat is recovered from animal fat-containing parts by subjecting them to high frequency vibrations to crack the fat globules having cellular envelopes and thereby release the fat. The animal parts are treated preferably at their animal heat, about 37 DEG C., by separating the parts immediately from slaughtered animals. The parts are hashed in a hasher, preferably provided with heating means, such as a steam jacket, to maintain the animal heat temperature. The hashed material is then subjected to the vibrations, the temperature being further controlled during this step so as to keep the released fat in the liquid state and below the coagulating point of the proteins therein. Warm water or salted water, at about 37 DEG C., may be added to the fat-containing parts during the hashing step in the proportion of 20 to 30 per cent of the weight of the fat material. The high frequency vibrations are preferably effected by a multi-stage high frequency vibrator having an inlet and outlet and wherein the frequency of the vibrations increases from the inlet to the outlet. The method may be applied to fat stored in freezers by first defrosting and then heating up to 37 DEG C.
