A water sterilizing apparatus, Fig. 1, comprises a tank 4 having an electrically-operated water inlet valve 9, immersion heaters 24 for water in the tank and an electrically-operated outlet valve 10, a storage tank 5 for water sterilized in the tank 4 and delivered therefrom by the outlet valve 10, a high water level switch 16, a pressure-operated switch 19 and a low water level switch 17 for the tank 4 and a water level switch 18 for the tank 5, the switch 16 causing closure of the valve 9 and operation of the heaters 24 when the tank 4 has filled with water, the pressure switch 19 causing cessation of supply of current to the heaters when steam pressure in the tank 4 rises to a certain level, and, provided that the supply tank 5 is sufficiently empty and the switch 18 is in consequence closed, allowing opening of the valve 10, and the switch 17 functioning to close the valve 10 and open the valve 9 when sterilized water has drained from the tank 4. A trap 23 prevents passage of unsterilized water directly to the outlet valve 10 at the period when this valve is being closed and the inlet valve 9 is being opened. Hot sterilized water flowing from the supply tank 5 upon opening a draw-off tap 15a passes through a tank 3, and unsterilized cold water being fed from a tank 1 to the inlet valve 9 of the sterilizing tank 4 flows by way of a tank 2 which jackets the tank 3. Air entering the supply tank 5 on withdrawing sterilized water therefrom is drawn through liquid disinfectant in a vessel 29 and by way of a non-return valve 28 ; air expelled from the supply tank 5 on entry of sterilized water from the tank 4 leaves by way of a pipe 25 in which is a non-return valve 26.
