Abstract
747,880. Insulating bushings; mounting terminals. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Feb. 4, 1955 [Feb. 4, 1954], No. 3329/54. Classes 36 and 38 (1). A bushing end cap comprises an end member 1 and a hollow body 2 which have a flexible seal 6 between them and which are urged apart by a spring 8, so that when the member 1 is attached to a conductor 3 fixed within an insulating bushing 4, the member 2 is pressed against the end of the bushing 4 by the spring 8. The members 1, 2 are held rigidly to gether by screws 5 and spring 8 is inserted in corresponding recesses in the two members and held compressed by a locking ring 9 and support 10. The unit is then screwed on to conductor 3 until it is in contact with bushing 4, when the screws 5 are loosened so that the spring exerts a force tending to hold the member 2 against the shell 4. A gasket 11 may be positioned between the members 2, 4 and a recess 12 between these parts filled with weatherproofing compound.
