Abstract
747,809. Magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. BECQ, A. March 24, 1954. [Oct. 21, 1953; Dec. 23, 1953], No. 8622/54. Class 40(2) In a sound reproducing apparatus having a drum unitary with a speed-stabilizing flywheel, a mounting means for magnetic transducers is provided comprising an auxiliary drum placed close to, and mechanically coupled to the stabilizing drum, the magnetic head or heads being arranged to engage the record tape or film between the said drums. The invention is particularly applicable to a kinematograph sound-film projector in which 'provision is made for optical reproduction of sound, but in which provision is also to be made for magnetic reproduction. In the first embodiment (Fig. 2) a drum t stabilized by a flywheel v is shown, in which a light source oc for optical reproduction is located over the said drum t. An auxiliary drum ta is coupled to drum t by an idler ga, and the magnetic transducer x is pressed against the film or tape m at a point between the two drums. In anotherembodiment (Fig. 4) the stabilized drum t and auxiliary drum ta are coupled together by a belt j. Figs. 5 and 11 show embodiments forming adaptors for clamping on to existing kinematograph projectors of known make. Both have drums coupled together by a belt, and show the transducers pressing outwardly against the film or tape which is guided by auxiliary rollers gx (Fig. 5) and g4, g5 (Fig. 11).
