Abstract

747,055. Heating air for combustion; feedwater heating systems. VORKAUF, H. March 15, 1954 [March 14, 1953], No. 7509/54. Classes 64(1) and 64(3). To pre-heat air, boiler water at saturated steam temperature is circulated by a pump 2 through the tubes 6 of an air preheater and then through a tube bank 10 heated by combustion gases. The boiler water is then mixed with incoming feedwater at 11, and is finally passed with the feedwater through an economiser 15 to the steam and water drum 1. Valve-controlled byepasses 18, 20 allow the quantities of water flowing through the air heater and tube bank 10 to be varied. A valve 22 controlled by the temperature of chimney gases also controls the flow of water through the tube bank 10.
