Abstract

746,992. Crimping yarns. HEBERLEIN & CO., AKT.-GES. April 12, 1954 [April 16, 1953], No. 10678/54. Drawings to Specification. Class 120 (3). Yarn consisting of synthetic organic textile fibres, e.g. of polyvinyl compositions such as polyacrylonitrile, polyamide, or polyester fibres, and possessing normal or zero twist, is crimped or curled by imparting to such yarn (or to a number of yarns simultaneously) a temporary high twist in a false-twisting device, subjecting this twisted yarn to a wet and/or hot treatment, and withdrawing the yarn from the twister at a rate at least 0.5 per cent greater than the rate of feed thereto in order to stretch the yarn by a corresponding degree in its passage through the twister; the product may then be steamed to intensify the crimp. Optimum results are obtained by imparting a stretch of 4-10 per cent and a preferred limit is 20 per cent. The high twist may be applied beyond the zero-twist point in a direction opposite to that of an initial twist in the yarn. Two yarns that have been highly twisted in opposite direc - tions may be doubled to form a yarn having normal twist. The invention may employ false-twisting devices described in Specifications 606,257 and 611,538 and the processes described in Specifications 744,735 and 744,736.
