Abstract

Cyanocobalamin and concentrates thereof are obtained by subjecting activated sewage sludge to hydrolysis in the presence of CN ions to release the cobalamin and convert it to the cyano form, and separating cyanocobalamin from the liquid thus obtained. Preferably the hydrolysis is effected at a pH of between 1.5 and 5. The activated sludge may take the form of "settled sludge," "centrifuged sludge," "filter cakes" or "flash-dried" activated sludge.
