Abstract

746,260. Automatic couplings. SANDOZ, Ltd. Aug. 24, 1954 [April 9, 1954], No. 24647/54. Class 103 (5). A coupling element 1 secured to the towing vehicle has a mouthpiece 2 and a throat 3 to accommodate the cone 8 and the tenon 7 of a draw-bar head 19 attached to the trailer. The entering tenon 7 automatically deflects the pawl 4 secured to the bell-crank lever 15, 17 pivoted at 16 to the coupling element 1 and the spring 5 ensures the return of the pawl 4 into locking engagement with the recess 22 in the tenon 7. The head 19 is resiliently maintained in axial alignment with the draw-bar 12 by the interengagement of the pressure plate 14 attached to the draw-bar 12 and the spring-urged plunger 9. Uncoupling is effected by the cable 6.
