Abstract
746,205. Weighing apparatus. BERKEL AUTO SCALE CO., Ltd. March 29, 1954 [March 27, 1953], No. 9038/54. Class 143 In a weighing apparatus in which the load is partly or completely balanced by a poise movable along a lever by means of a drive shaft coupled by a universal joint to the lever, the drive shaft and the universal joint are flexibly connected with each other. As shown in Fig. 1, the balance beam is pivoted at 2, the load being applied at 4, and further pivots 5 being provided for balancing part of the load automatically when required. The load is balanced by a poise 6 moved manually by rotating a handle 22. The shaft 20 is coupled to the threaded rod 9 by two universal joints 16. 17, and 12, 13 The former joint may be replaced by a flexible coupling such as a rubber tube, Fig. 4 not shown. Indicating. The poise 6 is attached to a metal ribbon 32 wound round a pulley 31 on shaft 33, the ribbon being kept taut by a spring on shaft 33. As the poise moves it rotates shaft 33, through the ribbon and pulley 31, to rotate indicator disc 29.
