Abstract

745,259. Rubber compression springs. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Aug. 11, 1954 [Aug. 15, 1953], No. 22545/53. Class 108 (3). A shock absorber comprises an annular rubber cushioning element 18 located on a guiding member 6 between abutments 2, 12, one (2) of which is movable relative to the member 6 the profile of the member 6 and the configuration of the bore of the element 18 being so related, that the element exerts a greater grip on the member 6 at a distance from the movable abutment 2, than the grip exerted by the element adjacent the abutment 2. As shown, the member 6 has a stepped profile, being of greater diameter at 6a than at 6b. Alternatively, or additionally, the bore of the element 18 may be stepped. Under static load conditions (shown), there may be a slight annular clearance (Fig. 2, not shown) between the element 18 and the member 6 at 6b. The invention is described as applied to the shock absorber described and claimed in Specification 732,717.
