Abstract

A preparation for transcutaneous use of the scalp for the restoration of the natural colour of the hair, or for preventing it becoming grey, comprises (a) one or more of the following:-mono- or poly-hydroxyphenyl amino acids, or salts thereof with bases (i.e. a metal or ammonium salt, or a salt of an organic base) or with acids, or adrenaline or its compounds with acids and (b) tyrosinase, these ingredients being incorporated in a carrier, e.g. alcohol and/or glycerin, or a fatty base, as in an ointment, or an anhydrous base as in a brilliantine. Oil-in-water emulsions may also be employed. The preparations may also contain liver and/or yeast extracts, vegetable extracts containing an orthodiphenol combined with 5 : 7-3 : 4 dihydroxychromanes, e.g. quercetine its glycoside quercitrine found in chamomile extract, or the extract itself. Examples of amino acids used are 3 : 4 dihydroxyphenylalanine and tyrosine.
