Abstract

[Also in Group XXVI] In an electric motor which drives a pump having a casing with an inlet and outlet, the stator is mounted within a fluid-tight compartment within the casing, and the rotor carries an impeller and is journalled around the compartment for rotation about an axis perpendicular to a line between the inlet and outlet. In the pump shown, which forms part of a central heating installation, the impeller blades 16 are formed in a flanged member 17 secured to the rotor 1 of the squirrel-cage driving motor by means of bolts 10 which form the conductors and hold the rotor laminations and the end rings 8, 9 together. The rings .8, 9 may be of copper, and the ring 9 forms part of a disc 11 which is mounted on a hollow shaft 12. The rotor 1 is separated from the stator 3 by means of a domeshaped partition 4 made of non-magnetic metal or of plastic material. A cover 7 is provided. The shaft bearings 13, 14 are lubricated by water which penetrates between the rotor 1 and the partition 4 and passes partly through flutes on the outside of the bearings and partly through the bores of the bearings and then through the hollow shaft 12. In a modification, the shaft is eliminated and the rotor is journalled on one or two plain or ball bearing rings located either on the outside of the partition 4 or within a cylindrical wall surrounding the rotor. The rotor laminations may be eliminated and the rotor cast in one piece, as of copper.
