743,700. Electric capacitors. STEATITMAGNESIA AKT.-GES. Sept. 30, 1953 [Oct. 4, 1952], No. 26877/53. Class 37. In a capacitor comprising a ceramic body of high dielectric constant provided with electrode coatings the body is provided with at least one strip of a glaze of low dielectric constant so arranged that the entire periphery of at least one of the electrode coatings lies on glazed areas so preventing glow discharges. In one embodiment (Fig. 1) a tube 1 of ceramic containing barium titanate has a ring 2 of a glaze not softened by the electrode burning-on process containing e.g. boron or lead silicate at each end, an inner silver electrode 3 burnt on the inside of the tube and extending at one end on to the outside ring of glaze 2, and an outer electrode 3 terminating on glaze rings 2 at both ends. In a further embodiment having one plate earthed a ceramic disc has a peripheral coating of glaze on one face overlapped by the periphery of a circular electrode coating, the other electrode being applied directly on the disc. Three stovings are used in the process, one for the ceramic, a second at higher temperature for the glaze and a final one for burning on the electrodes.
