Abstract

743,222. Rotary-mould-table tabletting machines. KERFOOT & CO., Ltd., T. May 26, 1954 [May 27, 1953], No. 14709/53. Class.87(2). A machine for making tablets, each tablet comprising a central core of drug coated with sugar or the like, comprises a rotating table A in which are slidably mounted upper plungers a<1> and lower plungers a which co-operate to press material in bores C in the guide plate. Operation: (1) Coating material is fed from hopper 1 into a bore' C and lies on the lower plunger a. (2) (Fig. 6) The upper plunger a<1> is depressed by a wheel B<2> having a plain peripheral surface, a rod c in the plunger being projected to form a recess in the compressed coating material; a spring b<2> then raises the plunger. (3) A low cam a' raises the lower plunger with its compressed material to the Fig. 9 position, and (4) drug D is fed into the recess from hopper 2. (5) The lower plunger drops off cam a'. (6) (Fig. 11) The upper plunger is depressed by a wheel B to compress the drug, the rod c remaining in its retracted position because its upper end is accommodated in a groove b<1> in the wheel. (7) A second lot of coating material is fed from hopper 3 into the bore. (8) (Fig. 14) A grooved wheel (B<1>, Fig. 1) depresses the upper plunger to complete the tablet. (9) A high cam a<1> raises the lower plunger to discharge the tablet from the bore.
