Abstract
742,717. Voice frequency signalling. TESLA, NARODNI PODNIK. Jan. 9, 1953, No. 707/53. Class 40 (4). A telephone system employing v.f. signals, preferably in the upper part of the speech band, comprises signal-attenuating filters in the line which are disabled for the duration of the speech period by a backward signal from the called party, but are temporarily reinserted whenever the signal frequencies are imitated in speech. As shown, a tuned signal receiver E located between adjoining sections of a four-wire line responds to v.f. signals in the W-E direction, and on receipt of a preparatory signal of predetermined duration causes relays P and I to operate in turn. Relay D then locks up and operates a slow-release relay V. When the preparatory signal terminates, relays P1 and I fall back and pull up a slow-release relay G. The operated relays D and G together permit relay I to repeat subsequently received v.f. signals as D.C. pulses in the outgoing W-E section, direct transfer of these signals being prevented by a filter F1. When the called party answers, a backward impulse pulls up relay L which repeats the signal in the outgoing E-W section as a corresponding v.f. impulse from S1 over contacts l1, l2. Slow-release relay K also pulls up for the duration of the pulse and falls back after L so that H locks up. The filters F1 and F2 are then disconnected by operation of relay R. The reception of signal frequencies during the speech period causes relays P and I to operate so that R falls back and reinserts the filters for the duration of the signals. When the calling party clears, a prolonged forward v.f. signal. likewise reconnects the filters. Reconnection is also effected when the called party clears by the operation of release relay Z from battery on the incoming E-W wires. When a call is set up in the reverse direction, a tuned signal receiver E<1> operates relays P<1>1 and Q corresponding to P1 and I respectively.
