In textile drafting apparatus of the type in which the upper drafting elements are arranged in pairs and are mounted by the common arbor of each pair in arms which extend fore and aft of the roller stand, the arms being pivoted at an end and capable of retention either in an operative position or in a raised position, the upper drafting elements are mounted upon the upper surfaces of the pivoted supporting arms so as to permit independent removal of an element without disturbance of the arms from their operative position, and the upper elements are loaded through the medium of auxiliary arms which are pivotable independently of the supporting arms. In the arrangement shown the upper drafting rollers 10, 12 and 17 are carried in bearing brackets mounted on top of a roller-supporting arm 24 and adjustable therealong by screws 23. The arm is pivoted at 25 upon a bracket 26 secured on horizontal bar 27 the arrangement permitting the arm together with the rollers mounted thereon to be raised out of the operative position. The arm 24 is adapted to be secured in the operative position by a spring clip 28. The brackets supporting the upper rollers are furnished at the front with a pair of downwardly projecting fingers 29 which rest against the front surfaces of the subjacent respective lower rollers and thus position the upper rollers correctly with respect to the lower rollers. The fingers 29 may be separate from the brackets and adjustable thereon so as to permit the adjustment of the upper roller axes with respect to the lower roller axes. Loading of the rollers is through a loading arm 30 also pivoted at,25 to the bracket 26 and provided in its underside with three leaf-type springs 31, 32 and 33 the free ends of which, when the loading arm is locked to the roller supporting arm 24, bear respectively upon the arbors of the upper rollers 10, 12 and 17. The loading arm 30 can be locked to the arm 24 either in the operative position or in a raised position by means of a catch 34 operable by a lever 37 and a cam 38 combined therewith. A spring catch 46 is provided on the arm 30 for engagement with a projection 47 on the bracket 26 to yieldably retain the arm 30 in the raised position. In a second embodiment the invention is applied to drafting apparatus having saddle-type weighting apparatus.
