Abstract

741,508. Turbine blades. ARMSTRONG SIDDELEY MOTORS, Ltd. June 18, 1954 [July 11, 1953], No. 19297/53. Class 110(3) An air-cooled turbine rotor or stator blade of a gas turbine engine is formed of two parts 34, 35, one 34 constituting the concave surface of the blade and the other 35 the convex surface, and each part is formed with internal ribs 37. 38 which are subsequently permanently united to one another to provide internal cooling passages. Each of the blade parts may also be formed integrally with a portion of the root, the root portions also being permanently united to one another. The two blade parts are shaped so as to provide a shallow internal chamber 16 at the root end of the blade to which cooling air is supplied through ducts 20, 21. The blade shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 is a rotor blade whereas that in Fig. 8 is a stator blade, the the root end of which is formed with flanges 26, 27 and a boss 28, a hole 29 for a securing bolt being provided through the flanges and boss. 'The parts may be united by brazing.
