Abstract
741,020. Cathode materials and processing. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., BAKER, B. O., WILKINSON, K. H., and WRIGHT, D. A. July 22, 1954 [Aug. 10, 1953], No. 22037/53. Class 39 (1). In the thermionic or secondary-emitting cathode of Specification 706,708, in which a roughened surface is coated with successive layers of the emissive material and pressed smooth, the roughened surface is formed by a sintered metallic particle coating. One method is to spray the cathode with a suspension of nickel oxide in a nitrocellulose binder to a thickness of about 0.05 mm., and then heat in a reducing atmosphere at 1100‹ C. to reduce the oxide to nickel, and sinter the particles. Alternatively, nickel or tungsten particles can be applied directly and sintered. The cathode may be used in a cathode-ray tube.
