Abstract
740,916. Face protectors. TECALEMIT, Ltd. Feb. 18, 1954 [April 30, I953], No. 10797/53. Class 97 (1). A fume-dispelling device for use with a protective mask, e.g. for welders, comprises a conduit arranged at or near the bottom of the mask transversely thereto and connected to a source of compressed air so as to emit jets of high velocity air in a direction somewhat away from and upwardly of the front of the mask to dispel fumes and provide the wearer with an increased flow of ambient air. As shown, a mask 1 held on the head by a band 7 carries a conduit 9 connected by a tube 14 to a supply of compressed air and having a portion 10 extending along the bottom of the mask and containing ports from which streams of air can issue, as shown, in a direction upwards and away from the mask. The conduit 9 is connected to a port communicating with the hollow centre of a housing 18 which contains a rotatable plug having a central aperture connected to the tube 14 and a radial port which connects with the conduit 9 when the plug is in the appropriate position. On rotating the mask to remove it from the head the plug is rotated relative to the housing and cuts off the supply of air from the conduit 9. Detergent fluid may be introduced into the air stream for emission at the jets.
