740,895. Cooling metal-vapour converters. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and THOMPSON, W. G. July 16, 1953 [July 16, 1952], No. 18007/52. Class 39 (1). In a metal-clad rectifier for railway traction purposes, the insulators for the electrode seals are cooled by air streams separate from that used to cool the main tank. Thus specially clean air can be used for cooling the insulators, without the need for using the large quantities of clean air which would be needed if it were also used for tank cooling. As shown, the clean air required to cool the insulators for the anodes 7 and cathode 6 are taken, via pipes 8, 9, from the region of the roof, while the tank 3 is cooled by air drawn from under the floor by fan 5. The clean air may circulate in a closed circuit with a heat-exchanger cooled by under-floor air.
