Abstract

740,221. Hypodermic injection devices. GABRIEL, D. March 18, 1954 [March 26, 1953] No. 7922/54. Class 81(2). A hypodermic syringe is provided with a stub needle unit mounted on a reduced end portion of the syringe, the unit having a tapered portion on which a hypodermic needle can be detachably mounted and including a stub needle projecting outwardly from the tapered portion which it joins in an outwardly extending shoulder which limits movement of the stub needle with respect to a vial in withdrawal of liquid from the vial. The stub needle unit comprises a ferrule 12 which is cemented or threaded to the syringe. A hypodermic needle unit 14 is mounted on the tapered portion 13 of the stub needle unit. The stub needle 15 is accommodated within a large bore 25 in the mount of the hypodermic needle unit 14. Shoulders 16 of the stub needle unit limit the' movement of the stub needle 15 within a vial from which liquid is withdrawn, the hypodermic needle unit 14 being detached for this purpose.
