Abstract

739,930. Valves. GRATZMULLER, J. L. Feb. 3, 1954 [Feb. 3, 1953], No. 3172/54. Class 135. [Also in Group XXVIII] A loose-ball non-return valve 15 for a hydraulic pump seats on a shoulder formed between two bores of a casing, the larger bore constituting a close-fitting guide 4 for the ball and being provided with outlet apertures 9 and with an abutment 11 limiting the opening movement of the valve. The apertures 9 are situated between the valve seat and the plane of the circle of contact of the ball, when seated, with the guide. The ball is made of harder metal than the seat so that, when the ball is forced on to the seat, the latter takes a shape closely conforming to the ball. The Figure shows a piston pump 12 with the inlet valve 15 reciprocating in the vertical direction and with a similar outlet valve 17 moving horizontally.
