Abstract

A flux for use in the production of magnesium alloys containing zirconium, together with zinc and cerium if desired, consists of a prefused mixture of BaCl2 and CaCl2 within the proportions of 45-55 per cent of each, said mixture having a melting-point not exceeding 630 DEG C. and being free from other chlorides. To this mixture is added 15-35 per cent by weight of the thickener MgF2.
