Abstract

739,342. Automatic gain control. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Jan. 21, 1954 [Feb. 4, 1953], No. 1835/54. Class 40 (5). In a low-frequency amplifier, comprising the amplifier section of a tuning-indicator tube to which forward-acting gain control is applied, a limiter is used to restrict the applied gaincontrol voltage to a predetermined maximum value. Signals are applied to the valve via terminal 1, and the gain-control potential from terminal 2, via resistors RG, R5 and R3. A rectifier D1 is connected from the join of resistors R3, R5 to a negative potential source, via resistors R1, R2 and clamps the grid potential to a predetermined value upon the gain control potential becoming sufficiently negative to cause conduction in the rectifier.
