Abstract
A composition comprises a resinous copolymer made from butadiene and 75-95 per cent methyl methacrylate based on the mixture, and natural and/or synthetic rubber. Specified synthetic rubbers are polybutadiene, and copolymers of butadiene with styrene, acrylonitrile or methyl methacrylate. The resinous copolymer may contain a small proportion of a third copolymerizable compound, e.g. styrene. The preferred proportions of resinous copolymer are from 5-95 per cent, based on the total mixture, while 30-50 parts are particularly preferred when mixed with 100 parts of natural rubber. The composition may be prepared by mixing a dispersion of the resinous copolymer with the rubber latex and coagulating the mixture or, when the mixture contains not more than 10 per cent rubber, spray drying the mixture. The composition may be compounded with the usual vulcanization ingredients and vulcanized. The composition may be used for shoe soles.ALSO:A composition comprises natural rubber and a resinous copolymer made from butadiene and 75-95 per cent of the mixture of methyl methacrylate. A synthetic rubber may also be present. It is preferred that 30-50 parts of the resinous copolymer are mixed with 100 parts natural rubber. The composition may be prepared by mixing a dispersion of the resinous copolymer with rubber latex and coagulating the mixture or, when the mixture contains not more than 10 per cent rubber, spray-drying the mixture. The composition may be compounded with the usual vulcanizing ingredients and vulcanized. It is particularly useful for the manufacture of shoe soles.
