Abstract

An elastomeric diisocyanate modified linear polyester or polyesteramide of the type described in Specifications 694,978, 694,982, 696,449 or 696,450 is cured by reacting it with a polyisocyanate in presence of magnesium oxide whereby the amount of polyisocyanate required to effect a satisfactory cure is reduced. When curing the elastomers of Specifications 694,978 or 694,982 the total isocyanate equivalents used (including that employed in preparing the modified polyester or polyesteramide) is from 2.40-2.80 equivalents per mol. of unmodified polyester or polyesteramide. When curing the elastomers of Specifications 696,449 and 696,450 the total isocyanate equivalents used is 2.40-2.80 equivalents per mol. of unmodified polyester or polyesteramide plus twice the molar amount of bifunctional additive used in the preparation of the elastomeric diisocyanate modified polyester or polyesteramide. In examples elastomeric diisocyanate modified polyesters and polyesteramides of the type described in the said Specifications were milled with 4,41-diphenyl diisocyanate and magnesium oxide and test sheets were press cured at 280 DEG F. for 5 minutes.
