Abstract

737,027. Discharge apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 7, 1953 [April 10, 1952], No. 9395/53. Class 39 (1). An electrical contact member for a disc elec trode of a disc seal dis charge tube comprises radially slotted plate 2 Fig. 1, and a flexible conductive diaphragn 5 which completely covers the slots and sectors between slots, so that the diaphragm 5 is pressed against the disc electrode 8 by the plate sectors 3 and electromagnetic coupling between the spaces on either side of the contact member is prevented. In the form shown, connection to the grid ring 8 is made by flexible diaphragm 5 of silver-plated nickel which is pressed against 8 by brass contact springs 3 formed by radially slotting ring 2. The outer edge of the diaphragm 5 is clamped between rings 2, 4 and soldered to 2, and 2 is soldered to brass member 1. Member 1 may be part of a resonator or waveguide. Since the diaphragm 5 masks the radial slots the latter cannot operate as coupling slots to cause unwanted oscillation for example.
