Abstract

736,707. Magnetic switches; thermal switches. NEW DAY ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES, Ltd. Jan. 11, 1954 [Jan. 12, 1953], No. 836/53. Class 38 (5). A switch comprises a resilient blade c (or, alternatively, a pivoted spring-biased blade) fixed at b and carrying a permanent magnet i and a contact h. As shown, the magnet is carried by an integral tongue c<SP>1</SP> of the blade. The blade actuated comprises a U-shaped iron member having forked sides k joined by a cross piece m and pivoted on a pin j, the forked sides receiving the respective ends of the magnet. In each limit position of the contact h in which it engages stop d or e, at least one stop constituting a contact, the switch is held by the attraction between the magnet and one of the arms of the forked sides k. The actuator is shown as operable by a push button o which acts on the cross piece m, pressure on the button causing stressing of the blade until the magnet is pulled off the upper arms of the sides k and attracted to the lower arms, the contact h disengaging contact d and engaging contact e. On release of the button the stress in the blade restores the switch to its initial condition. In a modification the arrangement is such that the blade remains in each limit position and the actuator is moved by a lever operable by hand or automatically. Further, the actuator may be operated by a thermostat.
