Abstract
735,803. Electric indicating systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 6, 1954 [May 29, 1953], No. 15008/53. Class 40 (1). The phase of the unbalance of a rotor 1 (Fig. 1) is determined by feeding the unbalance signals from an electrical pick-up 2 through a phase-splitter 5, to give A.C. voltages at 90 degrees to each other, which are taken to the plates of a cathode-ray tube in an oscillograph 7 to give a circular trace, and also through a pulse-forming unit 6 which generates a cyclic, short duration pulse which is fed to the grid or cathode of the C.R.T. to brighten or blacken the trace for the duration of the pulse, a reference pulse being obtained from a coil 8 with permanent magnet core due to the recurrent passage of a small projection 9 of magnetic material attached to the rotor 1, whereby the position of the unbalance mass with reference to the position of the magnetic material 9 can be seen on the C.R.T. trace. The magnitude of the unbalance mass is indicated on a meter 4 receiving the amplified signals from the pickup 2.
