Abstract

735,569. Press button retractive switches. BEER, D. C. Sept. 8, 1952 [June 8, 1951], No. 13642/51. Class 38 (5). A snap-action switch has a leaf spring 51 held in compression between a contact arm 33, fulcrumed at 39, and an operating member 34, the spring fitting into notches 50, 52 in the arm and member respectively. The member 34 is fulcrumed at 43 and when acted upon by a member 57 attached to a push-button 69, moves the spring 51 across dead-centre, moving the contact 49 up with a snap-action against a further contact 44. The comparatively large movement of the end 53 of the member 34 for small push-button movement results in large contact-pressure, so that the switch may be constructed as a micro-switch. The pushbutton is encased in a rubber sheath 73 to exclude moisture. In a modification (Provisional Figure not shown), the operating member is slotted to pivot on a projection on an anchoring plate, and the contact arm pivots about a bent-up portion of the anchoring plate. The contact member has a metal bridging barcontact inserted in it.
