735,341. Feeding webs. RYDBOHOLMS AKTIEBOLAG. Nov. 8, 1951 [Feb. 22, 1951], No. 26163/51. Class 100 (1). Web material 4, such as textile fabric, is fed from a pile 5 over a roller 6 to a bath 3 containing liquid wherein it passes around rollers 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. The rollers 7, 9, and 11, are driven from shafts 15, 19, and 23 by belts of rubber or similar material which is more elastic than the material being fed. If the material shrinks in length between the rollers 9 and 11, the roller 11 rotates at a correspondingly lower speed, since the taut portion of the belt driving that roller is stretched, while the slack portion is correspondingly contracted, such that speed of the roller 11 is adapted to the resistance of the fabric passing over it. Similarly, if the material stretches between the rollers 9 and 11 the speed of the roller 11 is increased. Feed rollers 28 and 29 are driven at such a speed that a loop 30 is formed between a roller 27 and the rollers 28, 29, the length of the loop being controlled by a detector roller 31 carrying a rod 34 operable to engage limit switches 36 and 35 which control, through relays, the speed of a motor driving the rollers 28, 29.
