Abstract
734,438. Automatic gain control. COLE, Ltd., E. K., and HART, G. H. Feb. 3, 1954 [Feb. 3, 1953; Feb. 12, 1953], Nos. 2969/53 and 3928/53. Class 40 (5). In a television receiver an automatic gain control voltage is obtained from a tapping-point on the grid leak L of a synch. separator valve. A variable delay bias is provided by means of a cathode resistor B and may be used as contrast control. The gain control voltage is applied to vision I.F. amplifiers over a smoothing circuit R, C2 and a diode D which prevents the gain control line going positive. To prevent reduction of the gain control voltage during the frame fly-back period and consequential brightening of the first few lines of the picture, a negative pulse is derived from a frame-scan valve F or from the scanning coils and is applied to the gain control line via a resistor R2 and blocking condenser C3.
