A device for adjusting the die and mandrel on an extrusion press for extruding non-cylindrical hollow sections is characterized in that the mandrel is rotatable about a stationary axis to enable the non- cylindrical surfaces of the mandrel to be angularly adjusted into parallelism with the corresponding surfaces of the die. The extrusion press comprises a die 3 in a holder 2 which is slidable transversely to the direction of extrusion in a housing 1. The holder 2 has a bore 4 which may be used for accommodating a second die or for ejecting seized ingots by moving the bore into line with the axis of the press. The holder is movable along a lower guide-track formed by a wedge 20 which is longitudinally adjusted by a set-screw 21 for raising the holder for alignment purposes. A piston 22 exerts pressure on the holder and retains it firmly in position. Lateral movement of the holder is effected by hydraulic cylinders 25 and 26 and stops 24 limit said lateral movement. In front of the die holder is located a billet container 5. The hydraulic piston 7 of the press has a tubular extension 8 protruding through the closed end 9 of its cylinder 10 and the extension acts as a guide for the piston on the mandrel rod 11 which carries a mandrel 12 having a nose corresponding to the inner cross-section of the hollow section to be extruded, e.g. a square. The rear end of the mandrel rod is supported by a carrier 15 and the mandrel rod may be rotated by means of a worm-wheel 17 on the rod and a worm 18. The mandrel rod is moved longitudinally by means of a hydraulic piston 27.
