Abstract

733,480. Bookbinding. FRENCH, L. J. B. R. March 10, 1953 [March 31, 1952], No. 8166/52. Class 16. A gluing process for use in the step in bookbinding known as gluing up the book back and lining comprises the application of a coating of cold glue to the book back and immediately after by the application of a coating of hot glue to the book back or to the lining just prior to the latter's application to the back of the book. The cold setting glue is preferably of the polyvinyl type. The process may be carried out in a machine forming the subject of Specification 728,221 by fitting an additional glue applying roller for first applying the cold adhesive. The application of the hot glue is said to accelerate the setting of the cold glue.
