[Also in Group XVI] In a foot-operated or foot-controlled machine or appliance for office use, a pedal mechanism comprises a pedal oscillatable around the axis of a shaft 4 against the action of a spring 15, the pedal being arranged on a hollow shaft rotatable around the shaft 4 on the machine frame 2, the hollow shaft being provided with a lever connected to a flexible cable 12 in the frame 2. The other end of the cable 12 is connected to an operating or control member of the machine. Two hollow shafts 5, 6 are rotatably mounted on the shaft 4 by distance rings 7 rotatable on the shaft 4. Rings 9 are secured to the shafts 5, 6 at their outer ends and are provided with arms 10 to which are connected the cables 12. Foot pedals 11 are secured to the inner end of the shafts 5, 6, each pedal being associated with a helical spring 15.
