Abstract
733,182. Lighting fittings. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Oct. 1, 1952 [Oct. 4, 1951], No. 24592/52. Class 75 (4). A sunken air-field runway lighting fitting comprises a base 1 sunk into the ground and housing a lampholder 6 arranged to support a lamp bulb 11 so that its envelope and an optical system 14, 15 carried by the bulb 11 lie outside the base above the level of the ground. As shown, the base 1 provides a chamber 2 which has a cable entry gland in its bottom and is closed at its top by a disc 3 urged by screws 4 on to a sealing ring 5. The lampholder 6 is screwed to the underside of the disc 3 to project into an aperture therein which receives the lampcap 12 of the lamp bulb 11, a sealing ring 13 around the lamp cap 12 preventing access of moisture therealong into the chamber 2. The bulb 11 may be plain, or, as shown, provided with a silvered reflecting portion 14 to provide the desired beam, a hood 15 being clamped on to the lamp envelope. In the event of the fitting being " run over," the lamp bulb and optical means 15 only will require replacement, the lampholder being protected by the disc 3.
