Abstract
A coating composition comprises cement containing free lime, aggregate and an aqueous emulsion of polyvinyl acetate in which the weight ratios of the aggregate and the solid polyvinyl acetate with respect to the cement are respectively 1 to 3 and 0.07 to 0.22 to 1 of cement. A mixture of cements can be used. The size range of the acetate is 1/2 to 3 microns, and it may be plasticized. The gauging water of the mix may be derived wholly from the emulsion, e.g. 40 to 60 per cent by weight, based on the cement, of a 55 per cent solids emulsion containing 1/2 to 2 1/2 volumes of water. Specifications 562,859 and 666,865 are referred to.ALSO:A protective coating consists of a concrete mix comprising cement containing free lime, aggregate and an aqueous emulsion of polyvinyl acetate in which the weight ratios of the aggregate and the solid polyvinyl acetate with respect to the cement are respectively 1 to 3 and 0.07 to 0.22 to 1, of cement. A mixture of cements can be used. The gauging water of the mix may be derived wholly or in part from the emulsion, e.g. in the former case, 40 to 60 per cent by weight based on the cement of a 55 per cent solids emulsion containing 1/2 to 2 1/2 volumes of water.
